Arriving by plane

Rieneck lies roughly 80km east of Frankfurt/Main airport (FRA). From the airport train station, reaching the Guide and Scout Castle is straightforward. The form below uses the Deutsche Bahn journey planner. The stations, Frankfurt Airport (Start point) and Rieneck (Destination), have already been filled in. You just need to add the date and your desired time of departure / arrival.

Both stations are connected to Terminal 1

There is a local railway station, the Regionalbahnhof, for S-Bahn and regional trains (the Regional-Express) at Terminal 1, Level -1.

Important: Don't get mixed up with Fernbahnhof. All trains to GEMÜNDEN (MAIN)/WÜRZBURG leave from the Regionalbahnhof.

Catch the S-Bahn (S 8) to HANAU and go as far as FRANKFURT (HBF) HAUPTBAHNHOF (first stop in the tunnel). Walk up to the main hall and take the regional train Regional-Express (RE) to WÜRZBURG.

Important: Make sure you don't board an InterCity (IC) train!

Get off at GEMÜNDEN. If you are lucky you have made arrangements for a pick-up from there. Otherwise, there is a connecting train Regionalbahn to SCHLÜCHTERN. Rieneck is the very first stop on the way.
For a small fee we can collect your luggage from Rieneck station and from there it is then a pleasant 20 minutes walk along a footpath through the valley towards the castle.

Rieneck lies roughly 200 km east of the small Hahn airport (HHN) which is being used by Ryanair. A bus transfer connects the airport with FRANKFURT Main Station. From there you can take an hourly train to GEMÜNDEN (direction: WÜRZBURG) and further on to RIENECK. The form below uses the Deutsche Bahn journey planner. Achtung: Bitte nicht mit dem Fernbahnhof verwechseln. Alle Züge Richtung GEMÜNDEN (Main), Fahrtrichtung WÜRZBURG, fahren im Regionalbahnhof ab.

Nehmen Sie die S-Bahn (S 8) Richtung HANAU. Steigen Sie aus am HAUPTBAHNHOF (HBF) FRANKFURT (die erste Haltestelle im Tunnel). Dort gehen Sie hinauf in die große Haupthalle und nehmen den Regional-Express(RE) Richtung WÜRZBURG. 

Wichtig: Hier nicht aus Versehen in den InterCity (IC) einsteigen!

Aussteigen in GEMÜNDEN. Entweder Sie haben eine Abholung von dort vereinbart, oder aber Sie nehmen von dort die Regionalbahn Richtung SCHLÜCHTERN nach Rieneck (1. Station nach Gemünden). Von dort kann gegen geringes Entgelt der "Burg-Shuttle" Ihr Gepäck abholen und für Sie selbst ist es nur noch ein wunderschöner Fußweg von 20min durchs Tal bis zu Ihrem Ziel.

Von dort gibt es eine Busverbindung zum Hauptbahnhof FRANKFURT, wo stündlich ein durchgehender Zug Richtung WÜRZBURG bis nach GEMÜNDEN abfährt.
