Programa

Lower Franconia has a lot to offer!  There´s Lohr am Main, a typical Lower Franconian small town with a an idyllic old town centre, and its school museum and Spessart museum are both well worth a visit.  Würzburg, the nearest big town, has countless attractions, and we only have room for a few of them here (such as the Residence, the Mainfranken theatre and the Marienburg fortress),  And if you like your fun gruesome, you mustn`t miss the guided tour of the historic keep in Rieneck Castle itself.

Whether on a walk through the woods lead by a nature guide, on the forest trail at Hohenroth or paying a visit to the beekeeper, who can tell you everything worth knowing about bees and honey, you`ll experience nature, not just learn about it.  Or groups can undertake another kind of voyage of discovery by making their own `five-senses-path´ or carrying out scientific tests on water.

In this programme area, we present various walks for which the Programme Office has route guides and maps.  We particularly recommend the popular walk to the Hohenroth forest trail.  For the older generation of walkers, we suggest an excursion to the country pub `Bayrische Schanz´.  Youth groups can test their nerve on a guided night walk led by the Programme Office.

Togetherness - in the activities on group dynamics in the team box, taking part in improv theatre, or working together as volunteers or staff.  Here we present various activities that will strengthen a group`s sense of cohesion.

Work your group`s fingers to the bone! - well, not quite, but we`ve lots to choose from here at the castle: Tafl, a Viking game; tie-dye; soap-stone; knight`s helmets; rainmakers; juggling balls; henna tattoos and so much more.

Ever swung eight metres above the ground? Run, don`t walk to the high rope course.  Or would you rather build a giant catapult with your group?  You`ll also find programme classics like the castle trail, the town trail, the knights` tournament and canoeing under this heading.

The castle offers several special places where groups can spend time together, whether it`s to celebrate or to think and reflect - the Knight`s Hall, the Vaulted Cellar, the chapel or the Lion`s Den.  We can also lend the `path of light´ materials or the C-box, which contains lots of material for a Scouts` Own Service or other short service for the group.

It keeps happening: groups arrive in cars and unload boots filled to bursting with their equipment.  There is an easy alternative!  The Castle has lots of equipment available for groups to use, from boxes of play equipment to board games to stories to read aloud - and we`ve a wide range of media tools to hold professional-standard seminars, too.

Two projects to mention in particular: the `Open Library` - no library cards, no date stamps, just good books - can be found on the second floor, by the main stair.  The Programme Office will also be happy to lend you the C-box, bursting with all sorts of things to help you plan and carry out a service or Scout`s Own with your group.
